Our Pulmonary program recently updated its referral guidelines. Below are highlights of helpful information for referring providers. For further details, please visit Pulmonary’s new “Refer a Patient” page.
1. The Pulmonary team at Seattle Children’s is committed to seeing patients for all types of pulmonary concerns, without limitation.
Now is a great time to refer patients to Pulmonary. Our wait times are well below our historical norm (currently 1 to 2 months for new patients), we have telehealth access, and flu season has not yet started. Read full post »
1. The typical wait time for new patients in Dermatology is 4 to 6 months.
Patients with less urgent conditions such as warts, molluscum contagiosum and acne can expect the longest waits.
2. Dermatology has created several new resources to help PCPs manage their patients in primary care and avoid a long wait to see a specialist.
We realize families are often anxious to have conditions like acne, warts and molluscum addressed more quickly than we can see them. To help support more timely treatment, our Dermatology team created the following resources for PCPs:
They are found on Dermatology’s recently updated Refer a Patient page. Read full post »
The Neurodevelopmental program has updated its referral guidelines to clarify what services the clinic does and doesn’t offer and how best to refer patients for a successful first visit. Current wait times for first appointments are approximately six months.
Neurodevelopmental hopes its new referral guidelines will help patients to be seen in a timelier manner and be directed to the provider at Seattle Children’s or elsewhere who will best meet their needs. They stress the importance of submitting a referral that is complete in order to help the family’s first visit go smoothly and be as productive as possible. A complete referral includes the following documents, when available:
- Therapy reports (occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech) and early intervention notes
- Questionnaires (M-CHAT, Ages and Stages, Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Rating Scale and other applicable rating scales and/or questionnaires)
- School records or notes, individualized education plan (IEP) or testing results, developmental assessments
- Brain imaging reports

The Seattle Children’s Program to Enhance Attention, Regulation and Learning (PEARL) for ADHD is now accepting limited patients. Our demand continues to exceed supply and as our community partners we want to inform you of changes to our referral process.
Moving forward, all referrals to the PEARL clinic need to include a Vanderbilt Assessment completed within the last 3 months by both the patient’s caregiver and teacher along with the top three reasons for referral. Our goal is to see your patients within 4 months of referral to provide specialized evaluation and treatment services.

Seattle Children’s is now offering same-day appointment scheduling online and by phone (206-987-2211) for our urgent care locations in Bellevue, Federal Way, Mill Creek and Seattle.
Limited walk-in appointments are also available. If families do not schedule in advance, and we do not have appointments when they arrive, we will do our best to provide them with information about other locations that can care for their child.
Families should arrive 15 minutes before their appointment time to check in. If families are more than 15 minutes late for their appointment, we may need to reschedule.
Additionally, Children’s Urgent Care clinics no longer offer unique holiday hours. Our Urgent Care locations are open seven days a week, including holidays. Our regular hours, including holidays, are:
- Weekdays: 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
- Weekends: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

We would like to share the following reminders to providers referring patients to Seattle Children’s:
- Please have your families call the clinic scheduling line to set up outpatient appointments. Our Contact Center currently is not making outbound calls to families to schedule appointments.
- We don’t want to incur extra costs for your patient. Please remember to send all relevant reports with your referral, including:
- Any specialty evaluations, laboratory or radiology testing reports so that we don’t provide duplicate services.
- Growth charts or data when referring for a growth problem.
- Your evaluation reports and any work-up reports. Having this information prior to your patient’s appointment allows our provider to better prepare for your patient.

Seattle Children’s has increased transparency about our access, scheduling and communication process for Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine by launching a new online resource “How to Get Services.”
Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine requires a provider referral to see new patients. If families receive a referral from a provider, we will let the provider know if we have an opening or not. If we do, we will contact the family to schedule.
We are sorry that, at this time, many of our clinics do not have openings for new patients. However, we may have openings in research studies. Families who would like to participate in a research study, should call (206) 987-2164 and press 2. Read full post »
